Career Highlights of Yankees Legend Mickey Mantle
The recipient of a bachelor's degree in business administration from Eastern Connecticut State University, Michael "Mike" Melville is a resident of Novato, California, who serves as a regional vice president at Enterprise Holdings. Although he resides in Novato, Mike Melville is an avid fan of the New York Yankees and owns an extensive collection of Yankees memorabilia, including items associated with Mickey Mantle.
A three-time American League Most Valuable Player, Mantle made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut with the Yankees in 1951 and played 2,401 career games with the team up until his retirement in 1968. A native of Oklahoma, "The Mick," as he was affectionately referred, was a dominant power hitter who led the American League in home runs in four separate seasons and finished his career with 536, which ranks second among all Yankees behind only Babe Ruth's 659.
Mantle won his first of three Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards in 1956, when he led the league in runs (132), home runs (52), and runs batted in (130), all of which were career highs. He won MVP the following season and did so again in 1962. He also won his first and only Gold Glove for excellence in fielding that season. Mantle was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974 and died on August 13, 1995, at the age of 63.
